Now I’m a big JRPG fan. The Persona series is my number one and being completely new to the Nier series I was sceptical at first after reading some more scathing reviews. But now after my first playthrough (and half way through my second) I can already say this game is up there with my Persona faves. The story thus far is blowing my tiny mind – I fully recommend bleeding this game dry, as in completing the side quests etc as you learn so much lore and backstory from even just the simple quests. The OST is a big contender for my favourite Game soundtracks.. the music captures the mood of each setting perfectly, ramping up the intensity in all the right places. Even one of the boss battles follows the crescendo of the music and I felt goosebumps I rarely feel when gaming.
As for the characters, I’ve fallen in love with 2B and 9S and cannot wait for my third playthrough. Even though 2B is pretty much emotionless for 80 percent of the game, I struggle to think of a better character design. The voice acting is fantastic and I’m really particular about VA (hence the Persona obsession!). Gameplay is fluid especially the combat (it’s top class!) and looking at older games from Taro the frame rate has improved in a big way – I understand having the big wigs like square enix involved helped massively.
I bought this game for about 12 quid from Cex in the UK so for the money I paid it’s amazing value too – I also upgraded the Game of the Yohra edition via PS store for some extra content! I cannot recommend this game enough! I can’t wait to do my third playthrough and see all the endings! 🙂
