Monster Hunter Wilds review

Playing the game on PlayStation 5, just got to High Rank and I’ve been having a great time exploring the maps discovering all the endemic life and fish. The monsters have been fun to fight, a couple were a little bit challenging for me but in a good way. I’ve not used SOS flares much at all but they work fine and I’ve not had any connection issues. The graphics can be a bit blurry when playing in multiplayer lobbies so I stay in “Online Single Player” hopefully they can get that patched up but the multiplayer itself is good and smooth.

The story has been very charming and about what I expect from a Monster Hunter game except it is alot more fleshed out with the characters and their cultures in Wilds. The gameplay itself is buttery smooth and is the best it has ever been, using Greatsword – all the new features easily become part of your muscle memory and nothing has caused any complications.

A few critiques. No Hunter language, Paintballs feel kinda useless because the monster is always on the map, the NPCs having names rather than titles makes the game lose some charm but as I said they’re more fleshed out, I prefer my cat to speak Felyne, No Chef cat 😿

Critiques aside it is still a 10/10 game for me so far, these are things that some feel are a part of the series’ charm. Maybe the Devs felt they needed to modernise more and those things were holding the series back I don’t know, either way I don’t think it takes away that much from the experience. I’m still having a blast and it’s exactly what I could’ve asked for from a new Monster Hunter game. Best video game I’ve played since Elden Ring and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us with future updates and content. Now back to the hunts! 🍻
